Cycladic culture

Cycladic Civilization
3200 BCà2000 BC
The Cycladic civilization can be divided into three periods:
Early Cycladic
Middle Cycladic
Late Cycladic

Even though there is not much known about this civilization, the three stages of their development are separated according to the differences in their artistic expression. One of the most famous art crafts are the well-known marble female idols.

These idols are a mystery to art historians. They were stolen from burials often to satisfy the very high demand the figures had. Actually, only 400% of the few 1400 figurines they have found are of a known origin.

The Cycladic culture was a very sea dependent society because of their location. They were located in a set of islands, the Cycladic islands (that is why they are called like that) in the Aegean sea.

It was at the end of the late Cycladic period that this culture converged with the Minoan culture and later on the Greeks.
